Rutgers was eliminated Friday night on the road in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, as West Virginia prevailed 4-3 in penalty kicks after the teams played to a 0-0 tie through regulation and two overtimes.
"Tough game, tough way to lose," coach Mike O'Neill said in a statement. "I'm really proud of them for having a really good year."
Playing in her final collegiate game, keeper Casey Murphy, who is giving up her final year of eligibility to pursue a national career, became Rutgers' all-time leader with 45 shutouts.
