Rutgers women's soccer bounced from NCAA Tournament in penalty kicks

The scoreless tie was a friend of the Rutgers women's soccer team all season.

Until it wasn't. Such is the fickle nature of penalty kicks.

Rutgers was eliminated Friday night on the road in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, as West Virginia prevailed 4-3 in penalty kicks after the teams played to a 0-0 tie through regulation and two overtimes.

"Tough game, tough way to lose," coach Mike O'Neill said in a statement. "I'm really proud of them for having a really good year."
