Rutgers to make Cappie Pondexter's No. 25 its 3rd retired jersey

PISCATAWAY -- In the moments after one of the Rutgers women's basketball team's 20 losses during the 2001-02 season, Cappie Pondexter lost control of her emotions.

Pondexter was sitting out her freshman season after being ruled academically ineligible.

"She walked off the floor and she started crying," coach C. Vivian Stringer recalled. "Keep in mind that she didn't have a uniform on. She wasn't even playing. That's what I talk about when I say you have to know what it means to be a Scarlet Knight."

Pondexter's passion drove her to eventually become one of the greatest athletes in Rutgers history (2002-06) and her place will be officially recognized Dec.
