As a sophomore in 2015, quarterback Shelton Applewhite led DePaul (Wayne, N.J.) to their third consecutive sectional title when they defeated Saint John Vianney (Holmdel, N.J.) at High Point Solutions Stadium on Dec. 5.
The 6-3, 175-pounder started throughout the year, exhibiting the poise and play-making ability that led to 1,262 passing yards and 16 passing TDs (to only four INTs) on 89-of-147 completions, 261 rushing yards and two additional scores.
The new Rutgers staff stumbled upon Applewhite's talents during a visit to DePaul towards the end of the 2015 season, and they soon decided he'd be one of their top in-state targets for 2018.
