Rutgers has hired Toledo's Kristen Butler, a former SEC player of the year at Florida, as its new head softball coach.
Butler replaces Jay Nelson, whose contract was not renewed by athletics director Pat Hobbs at the end of this past season after 12 years at the helm. She takes over a program that has struggled mightily since joining the Big Ten. Rutgers has a 28-61 (.315) record in conference games and is 86-121 (.415) overall since entering the league.
"I knew quickly during my interview and visit to Piscataway that this is the community, family and program I want to be a part of," Butler said in a release announcing her hire.
