Rutgers QB McLane Carter announces medical retirement from football

On Monday, Rutgers interim head coach Nunzio Campanile said in his Indiana week press conference that he did not expect quarterback McLane Carter to return this season. On Tuesday night, Carter made it official by tweeting out a statement that he was medically retiring from the game of football.

It’s a tough break for Carter, who opened the past two seasons as the starting quarterback at Texas Tech and Rutgers, respectively. However, he has been plagued by injuries his entire college career. After transferring to Texas Tech and Rutgers from the JUCO level, he only played in 12 total games spread over three seasons due to injuries and fighting to win his job back after returning from them.
