Rutgers practice report: Which quarterback won the 1st scrimmage?

PISCATAWAY — Chris Laviano and Zach Allen took turns running the first-team offense, but it was another quarterback who stole the show in Rutgers' first intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday afternoon.

Practicing for nearly two hours under 97 degree temperatures on their FieldTurf field, the Scarlet Knights provided the 1,000-plus fans in attendance a glimpse of their progress one week into training camp.

While Laviano and Allen produced some good and bad plays in the sweltering conditions, second-string quarterback Giovanni Rescigno fired a 71-yard touchdown pass and ran in a 36-yard score to highlight the open practice.
