Rutgers practice report: What to make of 4 running backs right now

PISCATAWAY -- If a Rutgers halfback ran for a 40-yard touchdown last season, he knew that he was headed to the bench for the next two offensive series.

Stringent adherence to a pregame script of alternating series isn't part of the plan this season, though Rutgers still plans to rotate touches between starter Justin Goodwin, Josh Hicks, Trey Sneed and a possibly limited Robert Martin.

"Goody, Trey and Josh all have different styles," running backs coach Zak Kuhr said. "It's not the same guy going in. They all have different value in different areas, but they all can do a little bit of everything.
