Rutgers officials: Drug-testing program is 'comprehensive'

NEW BRUNSWICK — Hours after a Middlesex County prosecutor said a recently dismissed Rutgers football player allegedly told authorities he failed multiple drug tests while on the team, the Rutgers athletics department called its drug-testing program "comprehensive.''

"Rutgers is not unique among colleges in America, in respect to young adults confronting choices regarding alcohol and drug use,'' said Kevin Lorincz, a senior associate athletic director for communications at Rutgers. "The University believes that it has a responsibility to educate students and to help them make the right choices. Our comprehensive program includes education, testing, treatment and discipline.
