Rutgers nose tackles at ‘heart’ of improving run defense from bottoming out

The difference in semantics is meant to illustrate the difference in body types of the 6-foot-4, 295-pound Joseph and the 6-foot-1, 260-pound Lambert, who opened Rutgers football training camp listed as co-starters at the same run-stuffing defensive line position vacated by Kenneth Kirksey’s departure.

“The heart of the defense starts with the nose tackle,” said Joseph, who appears most likely to be the starter. “If you have a dominant nose tackle that does his job, you can stop the run. Plain and simple.
