Rutgers is going with the kid.
True freshman Artur Sitkowski will be the Scarlet Knights' starting quarterback, three individuals with knowledge of the decision told NJ Advance Media. They were granted anonymity because the decision has not yet been made public.
That official announcement is expected later Friday.
Sitkowski, an Old Bridge native and the most heralded recruit of the Ash era, will lead Rutgers in its season opener against Texas State on Sept. 1 at HighPoint.com Stadium in Piscataway.
The announcement was largely expected - Sitkowski has been the clear favorite to win the job since spring practice - but it will give Rutgers another surge of excitement as it attempts to qualify for a postseason bowl game in Ash's third season.
