Rutgers must show a functional passing game vs. Maryland | Politi's 8 things

PISCATAWAY -- This is the week that the Scarlet Knights finally prove they can throw the football. At least, it needs to be.

Over the past five games, Rutgers have averaged 101.6 passing yards per game. The highest output was 126 yards against Nebraska. The lowest was 87 against Purdue. Say this for the Scarlet Knights: At least they've been consistent.

That they managed to win two of those three games, beating Purdue and Illinois, is a testament to their running game and defense. But, unless you're Army, it is mighty difficult to win consistently in college football in 2017 if cracking 100 yards is the best you can expect from your passing attack.
