Rutgers javelin thrower Chris Mirabelli makes jump to First-Team All-American

Chris Mirabelli's career is about throwing, but late Wednesday night he made a big leap forward.

The Rutgers track and field star earned First-Team All-American honors by finishing eighth in the javelin at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.

The top eight finishers are crowned First-Teamers, the second eight are Second-Teamers and the next eight are Honorable Mention. Mirabelli already was a two-time Honorable Mention All-American before making the big jump into the upper echelon.

The Holy Cross High School product had five throws (he passed on one) on the night, earning his spot in the top eight with a mark of 71.
