Rutgers injury-plagued secondary didn't drop off as Chris Ash feared | 9 things to know

Chris Ash wasn't just nitpicking after wins against Maryland, Purdue and Illinois when he said that Rutgers still made too many mistakes for his liking.

The Penn State game showed why.

"When you play a really good team and you make the mistakes we made, you don't have a chance to win," the second-year coach said. "They get magnified. They get exploited and good teams make you pay for mistakes that you make. That's really what happened last Saturday."

Rutgers' mistakes included a lost fumble on a kickoff return that didn't lead to points but flipped field position, a failed fake punt at midfield, a pass interference penalty to set up a touchdown and more.
