Rutgers coach Kyle Flood says proposed freshmen ineligibility is 'hard' with 85 scholarships

PISCATAWAY — Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany continues to push to make freshmen ineligible in football and men's basketball.

Delany, who first raised the idea in February, sent a 12-page letter outlining his plan to media members last week. Delany believes student-athletes in football and men's basketball would benefit academically from a "year of readiness."

With Division 1-A football programs currently limited to 85 scholarships, Delany proposed adding about seven additional scholarships to compensate for the loss of freshmen. Rutgers coach Kyle Flood believes additional scholarships are required to make freshmen ineligibility feasible.
