If Rutgers head coach Chris Ash is retained for a fourth season - and all indications are he will be despite this disastrous 1-6 start - it's beginning to look like he may be in the market for a new defensive coordinator this winter.
Ash announced Monday he has taken on more responsibility with the Scarlet Knights' defense than he previously had, including participation in defensive player meetings and in-game play calling. Ash said he made this change before Rutgers' 34-7 loss at Maryland this past weekend.
Ash indicated veteran defensive coordinator Jay Niemann will still call some plays, but it wasn't clear how exactly the defensive play calling will work.
