PISCATAWAY -- Among a slew of positives for the Rutgers men's basketball team Sunday, the only glaring negative was known before tip-off: This one didn't count.
In a charity exhibition game for the Red Cross Hurricane Relief fund that was coached and played with the intensity of a regular-season game, fast-improving Rutgers topped talented St. John's, 80-78, at Rutgers Athletics Center.
"We're showing we might now how to win," star guard Corey Sanders said.
Issa Thiam's buzzer-beating putback with 2.8 seconds remaining after a Corey Sanders miss provided the winning margin. It capped an 11-point comeback in the final 10 minutes.
