Rutgers basketball falls to Illinois on Senior Day, awaits Big Ten Tourney fate

Will Rutgers avoid the Big Ten basement for the first time since it joined the league?

The answer is still to come, and it's out of the Scarlet Knights' hands now.

Rutgers ruined a chance to handle its own business, falling to Illinois, 75-62, on Senior Day at the RAC in Piscataway to wrap up the regular season. But the Scarlet Knights still have one final avenue to avoid a last-place finish in the conference for a fourth consecutive year. They'll just need a little help from the only team they've beaten in the last month.

If Northwestern defeats Iowa on Sunday night in Iowa City, Rutgers will finish 13th, one spot ahead of the Hawkeyes based on a head-to-head win at home on Jan.
