Rutgers' Anthony Ashnault out for season; petitions NCAA for 6th year of eligibility

Anthony Ashnault, the only three-time All-American in Rutgers wrestling history, will not wrestle this season and is pursuing a sixth year of NCAA eligibility due to injuries, he said Friday night before the Scarlet Knights' final home dual meet of the season against Minnesota.

Ashnault has not wrestled for Rutgers since last season's NCAA Championships after offseason knee and shoulder surgeries. He was originally expected to be back on the mat in December, but is still not medically cleared to compete. Ashnault injured his shoulder last spring while training for University Nationals, and had the knee surgery after the shoulder procedure.
