Rutgers AD Pat Hobbs: University 'proactive in addressing' NCAA allegations

When Pat Hobbs was hired to clean up the Rutgers athletics department in late November 2015, university president Robert Barchi noted the job Hobbs had done as Seton Hall's interim Athletics Director.

But Barchi also highlighted Hobbs' deep background as an ethics reformer.

"Pat has served on various state legal and ethics boards and commissions,'' Barchi said, "and most recently was appointed by Gov. Christie to serve as an independent ethics ombudsman to the Office of the Governor.''

In other words, Hobbs was hired to clean up the Rutgers athletics department at a time when his predecessor, Julie Hermann, was accused of turning a blind eye to the football program's improprieties.
