Rutgers 5 observations: Defense makes a statement late against New Mexico | Politi

PISCATAWAY — Here came your first uh oh moment for Rutgers at home this season, a solid New Mexico team taking over at its 21-yard line with six minutes left needing a touchdown to win.

A season ago, fans would have been forgiven for diving under their seats (or, given the crowd in teh stadium at the time, behind their sofas at home). But this one felt different.

This time, it was senior captain Julian Pinnix-Odrick breaking free through the New Mexico offensive line to sack Lobos quarterback Austin Apodaca for a six-yard loss that all-but iced the 37-28 victory.
