SEATTLE — It took an incredible amount of restraint from the Rutgers fan base that the Twitter cries to bench quarterback Chris Laviano didn't really start in earnest until the second quarter of the season opener.

A new era started with a giant thud on Saturday afternoon, and that will lead to plenty of scrutiny on any team's most important position. Laviano completed just three of his first seven passes for 16 yards, was sacked twice and coughed up the ball in Rutgers territory to set up a Washington field goal.
It was 24-0 after the first quarter.
