Amid an unprecedented amount of backlash following reports that he was on the verge of getting hired by the University of Tennessee, Greg Schiano is not taking the Volunteers' head-coaching job after all.
According to multiple reports, Tennessee is reneging on a contract with Schiano due to public criticism from the fan base, state lawmakers and a rebuke from a White House chief spokesperson.
Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel reported that Tennessee officials called Schiano's representatives Sunday evening and told them they are backing out of a signed Memorandum of Understanding to make Schiano their next football coach.
