An overtime match and riding time point proved the difference as No. 7 Iowa outlasted No. 16 Rutgers, 23-15, on Friday night in the Rutgers Athletic Center wrestling opener.
Iowa (6-0 overall, 2-0 Big Ten) won six of the last seven matches to defeat Rutgers (3-2, 1-1), 23-15, after trailing 12-0.
Iowa freshman Alex Marinelli, making his season debut after coming off a knee injury, defeated Rutgers senior and recent U-23 gold medalist Richie Lewis, 6-4, in overtime at 165 pounds to pull within 12-11.
Lewis returned from Poland less than two weeks ago.
