National Signing Day included two surprises at Rutgers.

Eighteen of 22 verbal commits signed Wednesday during the inaugural early signing period as the bulk of the 2018 recruiting class is in place six weeks earlier than is tradition.

Rutgers was expected to sign 20, but defensive end Kaymar Mimes of Long Branch, Reggie Sutton of Maryland and Jayden McDonald of Georgia weren't announced as part of the class.

All three remain verbally committed, but Mimes, who offered his pledge earlier this week, plans to visit other schools like Pittsburgh. McDonald is hesitant to sign without taking an official visit, according to 247Sports.
