When he gets through a subpar practice, Steve Pikiell has a simple motivational tactic to get through to his Rutgers men’s basketball players.
The second-year Scarlet Knights coach will look up to the Rutgers Athletic Center rafters, point to the banners of the other 13 Big Ten teams, and make his message clear.
“My players will tell you,’’ Pikiell said. “I point up and say, ‘You’re not going to beat Michigan State if you practice that way.’ That motivates me every day.’’
