Mike Carter brings a football mentality to the Rutgers baseball team

PISCATAWAY -- Maybe it's only fitting that the leading hitter on the Rutgers baseball team looks like a football player.

Mike Carter, who ranks sixth in the Big Ten with a .348 batting average despite being in the midst of a 4-for-31 slump, wears a mask on his helmet as a preventative measure for baseballs hitting his face.

Shortly after arriving at Rutgers in 2013, Carter was practicing bunting drills when he suffered a gruesome injury. A pitch that ran up and in glanced off his bat as he was attempting to bunt and struck him on the left side of his face.
