If Kill's name was John Doe, he probably would be under scrutiny the way that his predecessor, a young Drew Mehringer, was last year. But Kill's 30-year resume suggests a process that ultimately turns growing paints into better results, including in the Big Ten.
But the results aren't pretty right now: Just like last year, Rutgers ranks near the bottom of the country in total offense (No. 118), passing offense (No. 119) and scoring offense (No. 108). The problems are spread across units, but start with the offensive line.
Kill's plan for after the bye week is to scale back the playbook to benefit overwhelmed first-year players like quarterback Johnathan Lewis, center Mike Maietti and a trio of true freshman wide receivers.
