Jones was the first member of Rutgers' 2017 recruiting class and the last recruit who committed to former coach Kyle Flood.
When Flood and all his assistants were replaced, Jones remained committed and the new staff was happy to see it given that he fits the preferred mold for physical tacklers.
Jones committed to Rutgers on Nov. 23, 2015, less than a week before Flood was fired and soon replaced by coach Chris Ash.
