Tverdov committed to Rutgers on July 13, 2016, even though popular opinion for long before that was that he was Piscataway-bound. Still, Tverdov let his recruitment play out, counting offers from Boston College, Duke, Pittsburgh, Indiana, Minnesota, Purdue, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and others among his approximately 15 offers.
Tverdov became a leader in keeping the recruiting class together through the disappointment of a 2-10 season in 2016.
