Kyle Flood expands his line of thinking on why stick with Chris Laviano over Hayden Rettig

MADISON, Wisc. – Loyalty to his starting quarterback during tough times has worked for Kyle Flood in the past, but Rutgers coach said that isn’t dictating his handling of the current situation.

Chris Laviano was named the starter for Saturday against Michigan – ending whatever little suspense existed – despite coming off back-to-back dismal performances in which backup Hayden Retting played the fourth quarter of a blowout loss.

It echoes the way that Flood resisted the temptation to bench Gary Nova for Chas Dodd late in 2012 and early in 2013 before finally pulling the trigger, or for Laviano early last season.
