Rutgers coach Chris Ash ended months of speculation Monday, naming Kyle Bolin as his starting quarterback for the Sept. 1 opener versus Washington and beyond this season.
Back in December 2016, in the wake of a 2-10 campaign in Ash's first season, Rutgers' quarterback competition was expected to be a four-man battle between Gio Rescigno, Tylin Oden, Johnathan Lewis and Zach Allen.
But after Oden transferred in April ... after Allen suffered an ACL tear that ended any realistic hopes to be effective for the 2017 season ... and after Rutgers lured Bolin to Piscataway as a grad transfer from Louisville, the quarterback competition took a decidedly different turn.
