When the State University of New Jersey…a.k.a. Rutgers…was added to the Big Ten many shook their heads and wondered why this move was made. Cynics thought it was just all about money and power for commissioner Jim Delany.
Many believed it had little to do with athletics and everything to do with the bottom line. Some believed it was a strategic move to make sure the future of the league included the country’s biggest media market.
No one believed it was because they added great value on the football field, the men’s basketball court or really anywhere outside of a historic power in the women’s basketball game.
