About 12 hours after the final play of Super Bowl LII, the Patriots are expected to hire New Jersey native Greg Schiano as defensive coordinator to replace Matt Patricia, according to an anonymously sourced report by FootballScoop.com.
It seemed inevitable that Schiano would coach with his close friend, Patriots coach Bill Belichick, at one point, and the events of this offseason sped up the timetable.
Patricia is headed to the Lions as head coach, and Schiano was looking for a route to get back to the NFL, a source told NJ Advance Media last month.
