PISCATAWAY -- It looked like Rutgers found its new starting quarterback against Illinois.
Right up until Giovanni Rescigno was rolling around on the turf in pain after taking a helmet-to-knee hit late in the third quarter.
Rescigno's status for Saturday against Purdue is a mystery, as coach Chris Ash declared Monday that the redshirt junior is "day-to-day" on the injury report. Ash did not elaborate when asked if Rescigno will be the starter.
Rescigno was 5-of-10 passing for 89 yards with an additional 41 rushing yards in piloting Rutgers to a 35-24 victory against Illinois in his first start of the season.
