Ex-Rutgers player K.J. Gray charged with marijuana possession in June incident

Former Rutgers football player K.J. Gray was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana in June after a traffic stop by East Brunswick police, according to a complaint summons obtained by NJ Advance Media. Gray also received six traffic tickets, according to records, including careless driving and driving with an open container of alcohol.

Gray was dismissed from the football team on Wednesday for an unspecified violation of team rules. But two individuals with intimate knowledge of the situation told NJ Advance Media Rutgers was not aware of the incident until athletics department officials were asked about it by a reporter on Wednesday after Gray had already been released from the program.
