Will Rutgers tread water this season?
ESPN's early Football Power Index thinks so.
The analytic measure projects Rutgers to win 4.3 games in 2018 and lose 7.7. That rounds up and down to a projected 4-8 record, which would match last year's finish and ensure another season without a bowl trip for the Scarlet Knights after going 2-10 in 2016, head coach Chris Ash's first season, and 4-8 last season.
FPI is, according to ESPN, a "predictive rating system for college football teams that we use to fuel our predictions and projections before and during the season.
