PISCATAWAY -- Chris Ash's vetting of new Rutgers addition Ahmir Mitchell includes more than just a week of research into the undisclosed reason for his suspension at Michigan.
"I've known his family for a long time," said the first-year Rutgers coach, a former defensive coordinator at Wisconsin and Arkansas.
"I recruited his brother (Damon) at Wisconsin and actually signed his brother at Arkansas, so I've known the family for a long time, known Ahmir for a long time."
Mitchell, a four-star wide receiver recruit, committed to Michigan over Rutgers in the class of 2016, but spent only a few weeks on campus before his suspension was uncovered when he was not part of a circulated team photo.
