Chris Ash breaks down Rutgers' QB competition entering offseason

PISCATAWAY — When Chris Ash walked off the High Point Solutions Stadium field after Rutgers' spring game on April 23, the first-year coach wasn't feeling very good about his team's quarterback situation.

"In the spring game, neither one of them particularly played great," Ash said in an interview with NJ Advance Media. "That was going to be a huge evaluation: Who could go out, under the lights in front of the fans on the Big Ten Network and go perform?"

Working with the first-team offense, Chris Laviano completed 16-of-29 passes for 240 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, while Hayden Rettig completed 13-of-22 passes for 186 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.
