In an open letter to the Rutgers fan base on the day the university officially entered the Big Ten — July 1, 2014 — then-Scarlet Knights Athletics Director Julie Hermann conceded it would take some time for many of her programs to achieve success.
"Our goal of a championship culture will take time to construct,'' she wrote, "but it will be built on class, integrity, perseverance, and unyielding belief — and it will be built to last.''
Hermann is long gone from Rutgers, but she was right about one thing in that statement: Building a championship culture is slow coming.
