The members of the College Football Playoff committee probably won’t pour salt in the wounds of Ohio State and Penn State by sending them a gift basket as a token of their appreciation this week.
But they clearly let out a sigh of relief at the sight of Ohio State losing at Iowa and Penn State losing at Michigan State on Saturday evening. Both results knocked the Big Ten out of the four-team playoff picture, which was good news for a committee that saw a logjam of teams vying for a couple of spots.

That doesn’t mean there still isn’t plenty of intrigue over what happens in the final three weeks of the regular season and the conference-championship games.
