PISCATAWAY – Only five years into a promising NFL career, former Rutgers star Anthony Davis is retiring from the San Francisco 49ers.
At least for the time being.
The 25-year-old Piscataway native, who suffered a concussion and missed nine total games last season, announced Friday that he is taking a “year or so away from the NFL” in order to give his “brain and body a chance to heal.”
Davis started 64 games straight games at right tackle to open his pro career after being chosen with the No. 11 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
