Ahmir Mitchell's 'competitive spirit' makes an impression on Rutgers coach Chris Ash

PISCATAWAY -- Nothing about the 2016 college football season went the way it was first expected to for Ahmir Mitchell.

Instead of playing as a true freshman for Michigan, Mitchell redshirted at Rutgers as the result of an intra-Big Ten transfer before the first game of the season.

"It was a tough fall for Ahmir because he was sitting out," coach Chris Ash said. "He couldn't practice. He was scout team. Just true freshman stuff that you'd go through with him at practice."

Perhaps sensing that the start of a new season is only five months away and there is plenty of playing time to be had in Rutgers wide receivers corps, the former four-star recruit is out to impress his coaches through the first four practices of spring camp.
