Those aren't quite as easy to track, but second-year Rutgers coach Chris Ash rattled off nine names after Thursday's practice when asked which of his players have taken a step forward since last season.

Rutgers returns just three of its offensive starters from the 2016 season-opener (left tackle Tariq Cole, left guard Dorian Miller and wide receiver Janarion Grant) and just three of its defensive front seven (middle linebacker Deonte Roberts, weak side linebacker Trevor Morris and nose tackle Sebastian Joseph).
