Rutgers football picked up their 19th verbal commitment in the 2018 class on Friday morning, as 3-star defensive end Matthew Thomas pledged to the program.

Thomas is from Midwood high school in Brooklyn, New York and also plays tight end, although it’s thought he will compete for spot on the defensive line at Rutgers. According to 24/7 Sports, Thomas also held offers from Wake Forest, Temple, Buffalo, as well as several FCS schools. The 6’3”, 240 pound prospect helps to fill a need for Rutgers in adding talent to the defensive line and is the only current commit to play that position.
