UAB Basketball Coach Pays for Players’ Cost of Attendance Out of Pocket

UAB men’s basketball coach and all-around decent human being Jerod Haase is coming through for his players where his school could not.

Haase is reportedly paying a considerable amount of the cost of attendance for the Blazers men’s and women’s basketball players out of pocket after the school was unable to. Sources told ESPN’s Jeff Goodman that he donated $23,000 to each program.

“For the vision that the administration has for the program, it’s important we do the full cost of attendance,” said Haase, who makes $1 million a year. UAB AD Mark Ingram said they will cover the cost of attendance for student-athletes in the next budget cycle, but “couldn’t do it for this year because of the timing and when our budget runs.
