Michael Phelps, who won his 19th Olympic gold medal on Sunday in the 4×100 free relay (and first of the 2016 Games) makes his individual debut in the preliminary heats. He’ll be challenged by Chad le Clos of South Africa and Laszlo Cseh of Hungary (Cseh and Phelps have the two fastest times this year). Phelps barely beat Milorad Cavic of Serbia for gold in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
