The ‘Final Five’ are definitely some of the biggest stars of the Rio Olympic Games, just as the “Fierce Five” were back in 2012 in London. There’s just something about women’s gymnastics that appeals to the sports fan in every American, which is why stars are born every four years. But this time around, they might just leave Rio as the definitive favorites.
Maybe it’s because they won a record nine medals, including gold in the team all-around, the individual all-around, the floor exercise and the vault. Maybe it’s because Simone Biles has done the impossible and become almost unanimously agreed upon as the greatest gymnast of all time.
