Sad Day In Bay Area, All Of Baseball: Tony Phillips, Jim Davenport Both Died

Tony Phillips, who played 18 seasons in the major league for seven different teams, including two stints with the Oakland A’s, has died of an apparent heart attack, according to former A’s teammate Dave Stewart. The news was first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle. Phillips was only 56.

Then we got the news that former San Francisco Giants Gold Glove-winning third baseman Jimmy Davenport has died at age 82. Davenport, who played for the Giants on their 1960s teams with Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Orlando Cepeda and Juan Marichal, played his entire 13-year career with San Francisco.
