Alfaro was forced to exit Tuesday’s game vs. the Orioles in the bottom of the fourth inning following an infield single due to hamstring soreness, which has bothered him for most of the season. Now, the team has officially placed him on the 10-day IL. Sandy Leon has been called up from the alternate training site to take his place on the active roster, and he should split time at catcher with Chad Wallach.
The Marlins acquired Alfaro in 2019 as part of the package for J.T. Realmuto, and he’s been a solid player when he’s been able to stay healthy.
