Ken Rosenthal reports New York Yankees utility player Jay Bruce has announced his retirement after 14 seasons in the major leagues.
Drafted in the first round of the 2005 MLB Draft, Bruce was selected 12th overall by the Cincinnati Reds, making his major league debut in the 2008 season, appearing in 108 games, hitting .254 with 21 home runs. He would spend eight seasons with the Reds, spending seasons with the New York Mets, Cleveland Indians, Seattle Mariners, Philadelphia Phillies, and New York Yankees. For his career, he hit .244 with 319 home runs. In his first season with the Yankees, Bruce appeared in 10 games, seeing time at first base.
